In reality, we all teach.

Whether it's showing a little one how to drink from a cup or showing our grandparents how to set up a video chat, we rely on each other to experience the wonders of life. Still, there are special individuals who dedicate their professional pursuits to this craft, who put their heart and soul into being our teachers. I have long considered teachers unsung heroes, and I'd like to change that. My picture book "Excuse Me, Teacher!" was created to celebrate our super teachers.

The hardcover picture book features whimsical illustrations and poetry verses that are sure to delight both students and educators. Diversity has always been a watchword for me. I believes that "the diversity in the human family should be the cause of love and harmony, as it is in music where many different notes blend together in the making of a perfect chord" (Abdu'l-Bahá).

A bit more about diversity in the book:

-When I learned that there are still 3 times as many Hispanic students as teachers in American education system, I knew just what kind of teacher I wanted to feature on the cover. With the help of a gifted illustrator from Brazil, the entire children's book showcases beautiful diversity in scenes and skin tones.

-To showcase differences in ability, we feature teachers with glasses, a teacher in a wheelchair, and a page in sign language.

-The book praises some of the qualties essential to being an effective teacher. The perfect rhymes are highlighted to encourage rhyme recognition for elementary school students.

If you'd like to learn more about the book, please check out the Kickstarter page. I hope "Excuse Me, Teacher!" will be a little bit of light for teachers in these uncertain times.
