My art revolves around human body

Physicality of our own body is never called into question.

Its presence is not perceived by us, it only is obvious to other people around. We take for granted the fact that it moves independently and listens to our commands and gets noticed by fellow human beings.

In everyday life, the magical fact that we are not ephemeral bubbles of consciousness bouncing in the space but very real objects escapes our mind. Yet our whole life is organised around our body. We hate our bodies or love and cherish them. We punish and pamper them. We are the centre of the Universe for what it's worth - the physical point in this world where Ego 'resides' and can work with and within.

Bodies fascinate me. Bodies repulse me. Bodies intrigue me. I want to paint them.

When talking about bodies I wanna talk about mind/consciousness/soul too. Because, in real terms neither one of those can exist outside the physical perimeter of the body. It really is a vessel for whatever substance one would want to fill it with (if any). I want to paint the intangible within us.

Body realise itself through action. Body in action is a feat of biomechanical engineering and a triumph of free human thought. Body takes itself to the top of the highest mountain on this planet, invents a deadly poison or vomits uncontrollably in Soho. It is all the same to me and I want to paint it.

Bodies are broken. Nature is there and although we are part of it we have to continue on our cursed journey to understand and conquer it. Departing from nature we had to invent our own means of communication, cooperation and self-identification. We did but they do not work as they should. It sealed our fate - being human means being broken and imperfect already! I want to paint our failures and successes.

Bodies live amongst other bodies. It causes tension and gives birth to society. The way we communicate with other people determines our individual destiny, whether we live happy and fulfilling lives or are rejected and misunderstood. I want to depict situations we find ourselves in. I want to show hardship, mental issues, sexual pleasure and the rollercoaster of success!

The statement by Protagoras I put as the title for this piece is normally interpreted as the concept of individual perceptions of objective reality. I dare suggest that maybe he only means to say that everything in our life starts with a Man not as an individual but rather just as a 'body of a man'…
