she grovels through the twilight of the night

the child is never touched nor stolen

kidnapping does not exist in the child realm

he wades through vast bodies of bottomless water

the child never sinks nor drowns

drowning does not exist in the child realm

she preserves every secret ever deposited into her

the child never tattles nor repeats

betrayal does not exist in the child realm

he runs wildly with double swords slicing through the thickest wind

the child never falls nor is cut

blood does not exist in the child realm

she eats brown bread that has kissed the canvas of the earth

the child never coughs nor sneezes

illness does not exist in the child realm

the children play freely in the valley of the shadow of death

the children’s faith does not wilt nor waver

fear does not exist in the child realm

I like this line. I can imagine a little boy playing pretend with an imaginary sword. Lovely poem. Being childlike seems like a wonderful state of being.

The line really had me. The way you illustrate your poetic stories is some whimsically wonderful and mind-blowing through provoking. Beautiful.

Great poem! I love how it repeats "...does not exist in the child realm". Children have that special innocence that keeps them moving and wanting to discover new things all the time. As life goes on we experience things that traumatize us with fear, drowning or kidnapping. We should always strive to be more childlike and adventurous. Thanks for sharing!

A child's world is different -- you picture it well -- although we as adults can see that they run along the edges of danger
