GOODBYE GRANDMA

Her kitchen is just as I expected it –

white walls with those pale pink, lacy curtains

that I always dream would taste like cotton candy

- if I licked them.

Mama doesn’t make eye contact

and Daddy won’t speak.

In the middle - a tiny round table

with a little plate of the tea sandwiches

that she taught me to make:

Two slices of bread,

cream cheese,

sliced up cukes in the middle,

cut into small squares

- add a toothpick.

“Goodbye Grandma," I say.

I had trouble going into my grandma's house after she passed as well. So many memories there. Very nice poem! Sorry for your loss.
