BEHIND THE MASK

Behind the masks our true feelings run

Deep and swift their courses incomplete.

If they were mine, I'd give you moon, stars and sun.

Instead from ourselves we both run in blind retreat.

Fears and shadows of wounds now long past

Keep us from revealing our souls and hearts.

Now the gulf between us lies deep and vast;

Hard words fly between us like poisoned darts.

We've built a wall with bricks made of pride --

Built it high from hurt, anger and fear.

We've built it from boasts, cruelities, even lied.

Masking the love we're dying to make clear.

What would happen if we hid love no more,

But spoke what we knew was real and true?

Could we then heal the cancer at our core

And fall in love again -- me and you?

    Pretty intense poem Claudia! I really like the image you picked for the cover too. Thanks for sharing!
