TATTOO AND PIERCING ADVICE

I’m by no means an expert. I’ve had three tattoos inked permenantly into my skin and had a needle pierce my body about 4 different times. However I can share my advice from what I’ve learned.

Tattoos:

1. Make sure they are using fresh, clean needles. Watch them take those needles out of the package. Shady parlours will try to reuse the needles to cut back on shop costs.

2. Pick some place with either fat or muscle. Yeah rib tattoos are awesome but they also hurt like hell. That needle will vibrate against your bone.

3.  You’re going to bleed. It’s all right and it’s normal. The needle is piercing your skin from 4-20 times per second. It is also penetrating doesn’t to the lower layers of your dermis. Stuff hurts, but in my opinion it is worth it.

4. Breathe. Also take breaks if you need too.

5. Ensure the tattoo stays hydrated; every 4 hours works

6.  DO NOT SCRATCH OR PICK THE SCABS OFF

Piercing

1. Never have a piercing gun go near your skin. They harbor disease and while that needle may be fresh, the gun is not. Piercing guns are a lot harsher than piercing needles and cause unnecessary damage.

2. Breathe out as the needles enter your skin.  Try not to think about what’s happening. Talk to your piercer. Make jokes.

3. Don’t be ashamed to cry. Some of that stuff hurts, and some of it is involuntary. Believe me they’ve seen worse.

4. Don’t start drastic- don’t pierce your nipples before a smaller one like your nose or your ears.

5. You never know what you are allergic too. Ask what type of metal they’re using and watch they dunk it in alcohol.

6. Contact your piercer for first time jewelry changes and if anything looks weird.

7. Do sea salt and warm water soaks twice a day for at least two weeks.
