ARE GUNS REALLY THE PROBLEM?

You know this has been the argument for a long time. No one really knows the answer to this. All we can do is theorize but do some of these theories hold merit? Let’s take a look at what I see then see if you see the same thing or if you see something different I’d love to hear it. The whole point of this entire page is to encourage conversation and maybe find solutions. To me, this is what our politicians are failing to do.

So, gun violence do we really think guns are the problem? It’s very possible but what I think the bigger problem is people. The reality is a gun does not get up, load itself, and commit mass murder? No, People do. The question we should be asking is why are people doing this to each other and what is the answer to stop it?

Instead of us researching and discussing that we are still talking about guns and common-sense gun laws. Now don’t get me wrong I do believe we should have some common-sense gun laws but I also believe in the second amendment. Almost all murders are done for some type of reason whether we believe they are senseless or not. Even the murders that we believe are senseless because there is usually something that motivates a person to take life.

Just to be clear I am no trying to say that the victims deserve it, what I am saying is something causes a person to lose control whether it’s a person that has had a bad home life, stress, bullying, psychological issues, hate, money, anger, protection and I could go on. It’s very rare that a person just kills for absolutely no reason. Even those murders that seem senseless there is usually some underlying reason.

So, how do we solve this? We can’t really and that is the real problem. We can’t even begin to try and solve it because our politicians are too busy playing name calling, pointing fingers, and which party is the bigger threat to America games. If these politicians really wanted to help us than they would get their shit together and start talking about real common-sense solutions to save lives. Even if one party thinks the other party’s idea sucks, what would it hurt to try it? What would it hurt to try solutions and if it doesn’t work try another?

Now all you gun rights advocates I am not suggesting we take guns away or even your Ar-15s. I know if someone is going to kill they will find ways. Not having access to a gun will just make them find other ways to kill. The perfect example is Timothy McVeigh who killed a huge amount of people with fertilizer. Get this shit though, I asked a 19-year-old if they knew who Timothy McVeigh was or even the Oklahoma bombing was. She did not know and I ask why? Are they not teaching it in schools, if not why?

I love the idea that all these young kids are coming out and voting and speaking out against gun violence. This is a good thing believe it or not. What scares me is if things like the Oklahoma bombing is not taught then how are these kids making informed decisions on saving lives. These kids need to have the understanding that it’s not guns that are really the problem. They need to understand the history that people kill regardless and before guns were even invented people were killing people. Laws don’t necessarily fix the problem.

I mean to prove this point look at the addiction problems. It’s illegal to do drugs but people still do them. The argument is to prevent drugs from coming into this country will help. No, it won't and anyone who believes that is either in denial or a fucking idiot... or both. The reality is even if you removed all the illegal drugs in this country and regulated prescription drugs better, people will find ways to get high. I mean shit, people huff paint, and whip cream. Who the hell would have thought we would need to regulate wipe cream?

The problem is not the drugs it’s the person who is struggling with something that moves them into the direction and not able to return. Yes, everyone has problems but sometimes people either don’t have or have never been taught coping skills. This person may have no one to turn to when help is needed. So, they turn to what they think or know can help. This is the same with gun violence. Most if not all people resort to gun violence when they believe there is no other option.

So, how do we fix this we ask? Like I said we cannot even begin to have the conversation until the people we elected to be leaders are ready to play nice with each other like we are taught in preschool. At that point we can begin have discussions on some real common-sense solution and like I said if one idea doesn’t work then working together collectively we can come up with more ideas. Who knows it might be an amalgamation of ideas from both sides and the middle that if not solve help to deter a good portion of it. Common sense asks wouldn’t you try it if it meant saving lives?
