Jacen felt his heart beating heavily like a drum in double time as he watched Peyton from across the room, laughing with her friends while they drank. He was too frozen in the chair he had been sitting in since he got there at the bar to even get up and move, his nerves and feelings were all over the place. All his friends had gotten up half an hour ago, going to the opposite side of the bar to join the girls, which left him alone. Suddenly his phone vibrated, making him jump out of his chair slightly.

"H-Hello?" Jacen answered nervously, his hands and whole body shaking badly.

"Dude, what're you still doing over there by yourself?" came the voice of his best friend Colton. "Get over here man, you're missing all the fun."

Jacen tried to come up with words but he couldn't find his voice. He thankfully caught Colton's attention, sending him an apologetic look, hoping Colton would catch the message to which Colton nodded with understanding before hanging up. Jacen put his phone back into the front pocket of his jeans, bouncing his right knee nervously. His eyes scanned the room again, but lost sight of Peyton, wondering where she had gone off to. Someone then touched his right shoulder lightly, making him jump.

"Jacen?" Peyton spoke in a soft voice that made Jacen get butterflies in his stomach.

"Yeah Peyton?" Jacen said her name, voice shaking so bad he didn't even have any composure whatsoever but he could barely look at her.

Peyton felt her heart breaking when Jacen didn't even look up at her, she was thinking that going over to him was a mistake. She took a deep breath, trying not to break down in front of him.

"Nevermind...it was a mistake coming over here. I was a fool to think you actually felt the same way about me, guess I was wrong about that," Peyton snapped at him harshly yet in a heartbreaking tone before walking away.

Jacen slammed his fist lightly on the table in anger, mostly at himself for acting the way he did. He felt the bile rise in the back of his throat, bitter and burning. He wanted to vomit, but all he could do was force his face to look calm and blank. It would never do to reveal his true feelings for her.

Wow, this is so much information, but it leaves me wanting more. It ends so abruptly, I am interested in how these characters might develop.
