Electricity flies
at damn near the speed of light.
That’s how fast
word travels.
You can make an ass of yourself
on the world stage
while strangers jeer
Or, you can use your powers
for good,
and build something real;
a palace of pixels.
Because make no mistake—
that shit’s permanent.
Your tweets may as well be etched in marble.
Will your kids see it?
Would you want them to?
You may as well stand by your words,
because like it or not, that’s going to be our legacy.
Words can hurt, or blind, or motivate
in the blink of an eye.
By the thousands.
Maybe they should teach that in school (do they?).
How to be a good person, digitally.
How to keep you eyes and voice on the truth.
And to not use the same password for everything.

Good point. We don't really think of how everything we're posting on social media and the internet is basically there forever. Great poem! -

This is a powerful statement. Great job on this piece. I think that this is such an important message in today's society. People do not think about what they put out there. They are mad at that jerk that cut them off and want to tell the world. Then when the anger has passed those words are hard to erase. Thank you for sharing. -

The metaphoric imagery that is social media, and the digital age we live in. -

Yes, nothing disappears from the internet. Always eternal. And it's like they say, "Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you." It's the reality that words do, and they stick, especially on the internet. I really love this poem James.
