THE END OF THE LINE

Greying hair

And jaws slackening

With drool

Belonging to those

Salivating for their youth.

Glinting still

And mouth

Pursed in a thick

Line

Fingers shaking

When previously

Pointed

Flowers

Remind them of death

Packages delivered

Of coffins transported to graveyards

For their final

Arrival

Paper

Of the final letter,

Note,

Testament

To loved ones

But the lines

Are hard

And straight

Thick

And congealed.

Like the joints

Which are too stiff to move

The flowers

Only wilt

Packages are only

The silverware

Ordered direct

From the warehouse

Letters only those from people who want

The Money

All the beauty

Fades

And the last years

Are as unmemorable

As the first

Lost in the haze

Of senility

And loathing

Rest in Eternity

You will find no peace

In the ground.

Wow, this is tragic. It's like they say, beauty fades. Our physical being is irrelevant compared to our soul.

And yet we pay so much attention to being "beautiful". Great one Zoe!

This is a very real and honest look at the perspective of those growing old. Great piece!
