Moms are awesome. The best thing about Moms is you can have several of them, and you can admire your friends who are Moms. I know many women who are amazing parents, and I thought I would give them all a shout out this Mother's Day.

My Mom is amazing. She has been through a lot in her life and is still resilient. As a kid, she moved around because her Dad was in the Navy. She got married to a man she later realized was a complete narcissist who made her life a living hell. (And mine, but that's another story for another day.) She has had two premature children, one she was able to keep by the grace of God and my brother, whom she lost. She finally got divorced from my Dad and was a single Mom. She and I moved to the state of Illinois to be closer to her sister who eventually passed from colon-rectal cancer in 2011. Her life has been interesting, to say the least. However, she hasn't let it get her down. She has a great outlook and a sarcastic wit that keeps her going, and she still has a lot of things she wants to do with her life.

My husband's Mom, Shirley, is fantastic. She raised her two boys on her own and did an excellent job. My husband is smart, considerate, honest, hardworking, and kind. Now that we don't live close to each other, we keep in touch via phone, but the three of us used to hang out a lot. She is an amusing and cool lady.

Another amazing Mom I know is my friend Lucia. Her nickname is "Wonder Woman" and for a good reason. She is a single Mom of six with Stage 4 Lymphoma and is one of the strongest people I know. I admire her for so many things. She is smart, a talented writer, and has this sarcastic wit that cracks me up. She is an outstanding Mom and takes really great care of her kids. They are so blessed and lucky to have her. If I could nominate her for a "Moms Hall of Fame" I would. She has her good days and her bad days, but she knows I'm always here for her as her friend even though we are thousands of miles apart.

My friend Jaelithe is another fantastic parent that I know. She and her husband are raising two amazing teenagers. Even though they are brother and sister, they are so considerate of each other. They are also kind of other people, help their parents if they need it, and are responsible. They are great kids, and their parents have done an excellent job with them.

Then there's my friend Becky. Becky is like everyone's Mom. When I worked in a daycare with her, she was everyone's sounding board. The kitchen was everyone's safe space where anything that was said was never repeated. Becky is a great Mom not only to her grown children but everyone else and their kids and grandkids. She's always ready with a listening ear, advice, or a hug. She will fight for you and the ones you love in prayer also. Becky also has a great sense of humor and is a fantastic human being. She has been through quite a bit herself and has always bounced back with resilience and determination.

Candace is another awesome Mom that I know. She has a sweet, loving spirit and adores her young son. Being a first time Mom for her has been fun with a learning curve, but she is fantastic at it. I can tell in pictures that he adores her too. Don't get me wrong; she's had lots of trying days. I've had several messages of "Girl, he has been so ornery today." and all I can do is smile. Still, I know she wouldn't trade him for the world. He is going to grow up to be an awesome man someday. He is so blessed to have her as his Mom.

My cousin Amanda is another Mom that I admire. She is also a single Mom raising her daughter on her own and does a phenomenal job. Amanda is kind and loving but still disciplines when needed. She keeps Vivian busy, and they go to a lot of events and travel. Amanda wants to give her a great life with lots of experiences and is doing an excellent job.

I also admire another kind of Mom. Like me, my friend Anitra is a Mom to several fur babies. She has three beagles, two cats, and several chickens. Sometimes her dog has seizures which can be very scary. I used to have to go through that with our last rabbit. She takes excellent care of these guys and does a lot of research on what she can give them that's natural and a little more healthy. They are fortunate to have her as their "hooman" and "Meowmy."

As I mentioned, I am a Mom to two fur babies. I have a thirteen-year-old, one-eyed orange tabby cat named Colin. He had a bad upper respiratory infection at the shelter and had to have his eye removed. I adopted him a week after his eye removal surgery. I also have a sable colored rabbit named Abby who acts like a diva and has a lot of "rabbitude." She isn't mean, she likes to have things her way. I love both of them to death and wouldn't trade them for anything. They are the best "children" I could ever have. I'm happy to be Colin's "Meowmy" and Abby's "hooman."

Mother's Day is a celebration of all women who stand in the role of "Mom." These ladies can be our Moms, those who act as a mom to others, those who have children, and those who are moms to the most vulnerable creatures on earth. I wish you the happiest Mother's Day ever, no matter what role you play.
