Not your typical alternate history novel, as it is written from a German war photographer's point of view. The media, or rather the circumstances surrounding WW2, has resulted in a loss of many German point of views. Although not officially a soldier, or even a Nazi sympathizer, the speaker maintains the fact that through seeing and photographing the combatzones and speaking with officials (a high up general in particular) he saw a different side of the war. Never far from his mind- the speaker leads us down his memory lane in order to help an American friend. The book gives great insight to a possible varying viewpoint of the African campaign on the Nazi side. I found the book to be a little hard to digest as far as structure wise, however it led me to new information and facts of the war.

I would recommend this book to history buffs, who would like to see a larger picture.
