"Leaving now"

what different meanings this phrase can have.

Good or bad

the definition is the same,

but the emotional response

is not,

On a warm summer's day,

when a mother tells her young children

"we're leaving now"

and they travel to the beach

to spend the day in the ocean's breeze

and the kiss of the sun on their backs.

Leaving and adventuring on

can bring up feelings of

elation

anticipation

freedom.

On the contrary,

"I'm leaving now"

said by your partner

who you thought was forever

because a promotion was more enticing

than you.

Leaving behind a wake

of aching pangs

and open ducts

and fruitless wishes for change.

"Leaving now"

can be so different,

but experienced by everyone,

everywhere,

over

and over

again.

With no possibility of avoiding it

we must simply accept it

and move on.
