ORDINARY SADNESS

Pain (the word)

Is trite

So writing about it means little

Although it is everything.

Your pores expand like tear ducts

Breaking glass to step on

So I can feel it in my flesh

All these things are clichés

Yet your face and your sucker-smooth mouth

Telling me

Everything

And nothing.

It could be the same

A sad woman

Sobbing over a broken heart

How ordinary.

Thank you so much David for all your feedback, means a lot when someone else likes the stuff you write.

I love this poem, and agree that the ubiquity of pain makes it often feel meaningless. Sadly, which makes it hard for people to truly recover from their pain because it gets overlooked because we've all been through it, so it can't be that serious.

Never thought of it that way. It is so ordinary it's perceived as nothing sometimes. Definitely not a minor thing though. Great work!

Powerful and short, I love the impact.

Thank you, sometimes I question whether my stuff is too short, but glad it made an impact despite its length!

When I am most upset, I tend to want to write. I usually don't write my best in that state though because all of the words and phrases seem so cliche. Sadness is definitely ordinary, but I do find a strange beauty in it. Great poem! Thanks for sharing!

I feel you on that, I have countless crumpled up pages in the trash that read like something out of my 12-year-old diary! Thank you!
