One of my favorite things about being born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela is that I managed to learn how to make Arepas. Arepas are corn-based pancakes and they are the perfect meal for any time of the day! Today I am going to teach you how to make them, so that you can enjoy the perks that I had while growing up in Venezuela.

Ingredients:

For the Arepa

-1 cup of Harina Pan (you can purchase in any local Hispanic market or Star Market)

-1 1/2 cups of Water

-1 tsp. of salt

For the stuffing -very much based on your preferences but normally includes the following:

-Butter

-Your choice of cheese

-Egg

-Chicken or meat

-Avocado

-Beans

Process:

-Pre heat oven to 350 degrees F

-Grab a mixing bowl and add the Harina Pan and the water

-Using a fork (this will help avoid having any clumps) mix until smooth

-Make sure the mix isn't too soggy or too dry (If it is too soggy, add a bit more flour and if it is too dry, add a bit more water)

-Using your hands, grab a fistful of the mix and make it into a ball

-Slowly pat the ball into a flattened shape so that it looks like this:

-You can make it as thick or thin as your prefer

-Place the arepas into the oven

-Leave in for 15 min

-Flip the arepas

-Leave in for another 15 min

-Take arepas out of the oven

-Cut the arepas in the middle but leave a little bit of the end without cutting

-Stuff you arepa as you desire

-Enjoy!
