SWINGING OUT WIDE

You may never go to sleep
Without a bottle or a rope
Your blanket will be damp
And the stone will change to dope.
It takes much more
Than simpering dreams
To take you from this world
You cannot hide beneath your bed
There is no space beneath your board.
Bite your nails down to the quick
Til they bleed without a sound
You cannot be too meek
Or you'll let the rope fall down.
You may never go to sleep
Without turning out the light
You cannot break your nose and bleed
Without putting up a fight.
So pour the whiskey in your cuts
And let the wounds stay fresh
You must be brave, and feel the burn
Until your light is snuffed

This is so powerful. It makes me think of someone struggling with personal life issues, turning to alcohol (Alcoholism), and trying to take themselves out (suicide) rope, to get away from their life issues, as their way to cope, and that even though they're using these methods as recreational, it's just making them turn to harder more extreme drugs to cope. They then try to use their dreams to hide from their issues, but they can't leave it to fantasy, they have to deal with it in reality. -
This is beauty trying to fight your deems by suppressing them, but not realizing that you have to deal with them in reality. The more the person trying to hide them in mask/facade, the more apparent they become, and the heavier the burden gets, as it is suffocating them.

Very intriguing. What is this about? I'm not familiar with the song.

I wrote this about someone feeling the need to leave this world, but who is questioning their gumption in an attempt to end it all.

Hi David, thank you for your reaction. I wrote this about someone who is suicidal. In order to complete the final act, you can't close your eyes and let it happen, you need to make the leap yourself. You need to feel it so to speak. I wrote it about that kind of feeling.
